I'm with Richard Weiss's JKD training group here in Phoenix and last July 3rd my ambulance was hit head on by a drunk driver which broke my right leg. Any advice regarding exercises;etc, I can do while in the recovery phase until I can get back to full training would be very helpful.
Thanks,
Jeff.

Really sorry to here that mate. I would have thought in the profession you are in you would get the top of the range advice on rehab. I dont know of any Martial type rehab exercises that have worked, but I would be interested in any that have.
Hope you get right soon.

Nice name there....lol
Richard had mentioned your accident, I hope you heal up well man.
Only part about recovering from a broken part I know if is that the muscle atrophy happens quickly and its a lot of work to recover it.
I'm not sure the best way, but maintaining what you can within reason seems the path of choice?
I feel for ya,
I been slamed by a Drunk driver too, who was doing upwards of 85 before laying down a LONG skid into my backend at a stop light. His unisured sorry butt tried to run too. The police acctually caught him before they got to me. (funny story there)
I'm just happy he hit me instead of my wife who was in front of me. My Dodge Dakota can take a hit better than my Wife's car could have.

Try going to a Chinese medicine doctor and see what they give you or do to you to recover more quickly. There is some kind of stuff you can soak an injured limb in that is supposed to help you recover faster. It might help speed up the healing process more quickly.

I broke my ankle doing judo in Taiwan. One of my Kuo Shu teachers put some nasty smelling stuff on it after the cast was taken off. All the soreness was gone in about 2 days.

That's a bummer... I'm sure you know the drill, let it heal! It will come back in good time. If the fracture is minor I might be tempted to remove a cast early...

OOOP's sorry about that bro.
I was trying to come up with a decent forum name and I should've checked everyone else's more closely...lol
Hope to see ya over at Richards sometime.

In "SPORTS INJURIES - DIAGNOSIS AND MANAGEMENT FOR PHYSIOTHERAPISTS by CHRISTOPHER M NORRIS" its says (and im cutting it short) to warm up use either a hot bath, shower, sauna, also physiotherapists use hot packs, whirlpools baths and electrotherapy as a warm up.
Reverse the procces for cool down.
This also from the same book - The use of purely isometric training would seem to be more appropriate at the start of a rehabilitation program when a patients range of movement has to be limited. As soon as dynamic muscle work can be performed safetly and effectively, this should form the mainstay of the strength programme.
Now what I say is go see a proffesional rather than follow what I say. But if you do follow the above you should be ok.

Damned if I know! One of my teachers, cooked some evil smelling stuff and had me eat it. Another showed up and cooked some evil smelling stuff and put it on my ankle. Of my 3 teachers, these were the 2 that spoke no English.
