ok, lets say you bridge the gap, and you gain an attachment. you proceed to pak the opponents arm, and he blocks the punch with his rear hand. you then proceed wedge that rear arm (and strike with your left). from here you have tons of options, but i want to narrow the scope of my question. ideally what could be a better follow up, a hookwith my lead hand or a straight punch? and, am i "supposed \" to keep forward pressure or could i circle or sidestep to right and throw the hook? i ask this because i have a tendency to sidestep to the right and throw the hook from there. the reason i THINK i do this is because i think it helps me put in a half beat with an oblique kick? what are your thoughts on this?

We no longer teach the wedge because when I did it on Bremer he loped and hit me, and he had never seen it before. The important thing about any technique is that it works on someone who is very good. When we train a technique our training partener takes one various rolls. We usually do 1 roll at a time then mix them up. Possible rolls are:
1. The street fighter who doesn't care about your blackbelt and charges.
2. The grappler who shoots or grabs.
3. The boxer
4. The Thai fighter
5. The JKD'er
6. Your choice
If you train like this you will discover the awswer to your question, which is it depends on your opponent.
Throw away anything that only works on someone who sucks.

yea i never saw the lop on a wedge either until you just pointed it out...

however, i think i understand what you mean in regards to training against the different types of opponents. its kind of overwhelming in the amount of different things you might have to be ready for some day, not to mention have a reactionary response to all the different tools, principles, and combat philosophies at in an instantaneous second before what could be life or death. but im glad you brought that to my intention, i have atendency to have blinders on from time to time.

what other "traditional" trapping techs have you guys slowly phased out because of their non-effectiveness?

Bruce said while you don't have to know all the martial arts, but you should understand their delivery system and how to deal wtih it.
