Hi guys! I have a question about the JKD straight blast. When we do the rapid punching, do we punch out and retract our fists along the same line or do we drop one fist slightly to make space for the next incoming punch?

I tried both and did not notice any difference in terms of speed or power. But the latter example looks erm... nicer? It has that circular motion and looks more like the Wing Chun straight blast.

hi .. just my opinion it depends on what your doing!! if im close face to face then i would be more inclined to square up for more control...so i be bouncing of the centerline with different kind of punches (angles or positions) so therefore i would say things would tightern up.
But if your not so close the punches are angled where the firering line is different and my elbows are positioned more at the sides of the trunk for maximun power and forward pressure.

There's more than 1 straight blast so it depends on which one you're talking about.

I'm not too sure what he did as I saw it a long time ago.

It looks on the video tape his straight blasting gene on the ropes as he fulls down....wasnt jack johnsons stance sort of sitting on the back leg and sort of waited for an opening (using ABD),,,then he would take that initiative and strike using often straight chain punch.....taking his opponents of guard.(maybe they worked better as they didnt where that big of gloves anyway)
But in saying that were the old fighters of those days have uprighted structures anyway?

I tend to prefer the circular straight blast (rolling punches), but I also practice the other straight blast (linear punching and retraction)....
