just wondering what peoples opinion is with favorite techniques as myself dont believe there is such thing.....(only my opinion) ive found in learning the princple on how something works teaches a far better range of movements..
one of my friends attended a seminar where he over heard a conversation with two people and one was sifu Dan inosanto. a question was asked about favorite techniques......something along those lines "you dont have to know every tree to know its a forest" my friend play tennis and he has a couple of shots he really likes but in observing the movements they dont always materalize into his interplay of movement.
"dam he says"" really want to do my best shots but never really get the moment to shoot them and when i try and find them ..its gone...because my mind is paralized in thought and a picture of a movement...

A punch is a punch, a kick is a kick. If you have a favorite, or even a favorite finish, you can bet in a real fight you won't get to use it and if you are trying to use JUST that technique then you will end up on your ass or worse. Having wrote that, I, too, have favorites but when it goes down I just take what is given to me and when I walk away, I win. Finally, make every move yours, own it, love it and cultivate its ability to move through different ranges. Kick to punch, or trap or wrestling. Than you will be way ahead of the game.

Making them miss. I really like NOT getting hit. 8)

And a crab scissors takedown or flying Kani Basami...

Hi Guys!

My personal favorites are (in no specific order):

Bil Jee to Eyes
Lead Straight Punch
Jik Chung Chuie
Jik Tek
Oou Tek

These things are simple, direct, fast and damaging! I believe that with these five things, you can take care of most of what is out there. Besides, five techniques mastered are worth far more than a thousand "half learned"! :D

That's pretty much my basic 5 also. I would add the heavy palm hit to that list. It's good to see you on here, Lamar.

Thanks Tim!

I am very happy to be here! I look forward to many great discussions! As for the palm, yes, I also enjoy palm strikes as well. Especially the palm hook (or jao sao) to the jaw/ear, the side palm to the jawline and the vertical palm to the nose. Thanks for the warm welcome Tim! I know I am in good company! :D
